‘Zero Day Attack’ virus discovered

A new, previously unknown vulnerability has been discovered by hackers in Internet Explorer and is being exploited by a new virus. To date (25/09/06) Microsoft have not released a patch to combat the problem. This new virus is of particular concern as it uses a vulnerability no-one has spotted (known in the industry as a zero day attack).

It is easy to become infected with the new virus. Simply by visiting a website on the internet that has the virus installed, it will contaminate your PC without you even realising. You don’t need to download anything, it happens in the background. The virus contains a number of nasty features of a Trojan type virus, such as key logging, which records keystrokes in an attempt to identify passwords and confidential information.

We want to warn our customers about this new virus and recommend making sure your Norton Anti Virus definitions are up to date as they have released an update to combat the Explorer vulnerability.
